General Installation Instructions - Before you begin: Visit the Visual Guide. Read the Tools, Preparation and Installation sections.

Tobias Stucco® Interior Wall Finish can be used over most common building substrates, this guide will provide basic information for installation and application.

1. Tape around moldings, doorways, windows, baseboards, etc.
2. Remove tape between coats when Tobias Stucco® is damp and re-tape when the first coat is dry.
3. For new construction apply flat primer to gypsum board, particle board, cement board, concrete or cinder block. White primer will suffice; however tinting the primer to match the Tobias Stucco® color of choice will prevent white holidays from appearing.
4. Allow the primer to dry thoroughly before applying the first coat of Tobias Stucco®.
5. Apply Tobias Stucco® with a trowel no more than 1/16” thick. More than 1/8” thickness will create a crackling effect. Press in and pull trowel across the substrate. Do not overwork the trowel.
6. Allow each coat to dry thoroughly. Always use the recommended number of coats for each texture. Tobias Stucco® requires a minimum of two coats to achieve the optimum look and durability.
7. Begin application at the corner of the wall and proceed. Complete one wall or plane at a time. Never stop in the middle of the wall or plane to avoid cold lines.
   
   

Hopper Gun Spray Application

1. First coat spray on with hopper gun, then trowel smooth.
2. Let dry.
3. Second coat  spray on with hopper gun. Apply less than with the first coat.
4. Wait ten to twenty minutes, then knock down to desired spacing of second coat.
   
   

Walls with Existing Texture

1. For texture more than 1/4” high, sand wall or plane.
2. For flat or Semi-gloss paint use flat primer.
3. For enamel paint use shellac primer.
4. Proceed with General Installation Instructions.
5. For orange peel texture follow enamel, semi-gloss or flat painted wall instructions.
   
   

Walls with Existing Enamel Paint

1. Strip or lightly sand surfaces.
2. Apply Safecoat® Transitional Primer.
3. Proceed with Tobias Stucco® application.
   
   

Walls with Existing Semi-Gloss Paint

1. Apply flat primer.
2. Proceed with Tobias Stucco® application over the painted surfaces.
   
   

Walls with Existing Flat Paint

1. No need for primer.
2. Proceed with Tobias Stucco® application over the painted surfaces.
   
   

Wood Trim or Moldings

1. Apply flat primer.
2. Use a 1” or 2” bristle brush to apply Tobias Stucco® to the surface.
   
   

Wallpaper

1. Remove all wall paper and glue.
2. DO NOT leave any glue on the wall.
3. Prime over walls.
   
   

Brick

1. Don’t attempt to camouflage the brick with Tobias Stucco®. For best results cover the wall with OSB board or sheetrock.
   
2. Apply flat compatible primer and proceed..
   
   

Cinderblock

1. Seal with 2 coats of Safecoat Penetrating Water Stop. Apply a compatible primer and proceed.
   
2. Apply flat compatible primer and proceed..
   
3. Rough or skip trowel looks best..
4. To smooth substrate, brown with conventional plaster.
   
   

Kitchens

1. Tobias Stucco® works well in kitchens, however it is not recommended for use above cooking or prep areas.
2. DO NOT use in heavy washing area. Safecoat® Polyureseal Satin Finish Sealer or Safecoat® Mexeseal recommended in heavy use areas..
   
   

Bathrooms

1. DO NOT use Tobias Stucco® in tub or shower areas.
2. Seal walls with Safecoat Polyureseal Satin Finish Sealer or Safecoat® Mexeseal over 2 coats of Tobias Stucco®
3. Catch runs from the finish with a damp clean white cloth.
4. Apply a second coat for extra protection.
